A pressure cleaner will not operate without quality high pressure accessories, and the right ones protect both you and the equipment. Here is what sits on the machine and why each part matters.
Why accessories matter
High pressure piston, or plunger, pumps are positive displacement pumps. When you are cleaning, the High-Pressure water travels to the gun, lance and nozzle. When you release the trigger, that water bypasses back to the pump’s suction. Managing that flow safely is exactly why quality accessories are so important.
What sits on the pump head
- Unloader valve: sets the system pressure to suit the nozzle size.
- Safety relief Valve protects against over-pressure. Note this is not fitted on small machines.
- Pressure gauge: so, you can see what the system is doing.
- Thermal valve: when the unloader is in bypass, the water heats up very quickly and can destroy the seals and valves. The thermal valve works like a radiator, dumping water once it reaches a set temperature to protect the pump.

Know your Specification of your Pressure cleaner before buying parts
Always know your machine’s maximum operating pressure and flow. It matters whenever you are buying replacement parts, so you match the accessory to the machine.
Choosing a high Pressure hose
High pressure hoses carry a pressure rating with a burst pressure of 2.4 times the working pressure. Select the correct hose for your machine rather than paying for more than you need. Hoses generally come in 1-wire and 2-wire construction, with 2-wire suited to higher pressures.
