Fire Fighting on the High Seas, A Solution to a Pesky Problem!

Recently designed for a Shipping Company, Pumps Australia has re-created it’s HP Fire Series to be long-coupled on our Yanmar L48 Diesel Engines. This design was at the clients’ request to be able to swap in and out pump ends whilst not damaging the engine shaft.

But why? That’s because due to the extreme conditions that these pumps live and operate in. Due to the fact they need to use the very same sea water, they float on to fight spot fires. As we all know Sea water is extremely corrosive and while replacing a pump is a relatively cheap maintenance fix for these shipping companies, the engine part of the equation isn’t.

To combat that, Pumps Australia has long coupled the HP series pump on a Stainless-Steel Baseplate and Frame. This means that the client can simply slide out the pump on the pedestal, replace the wet end, and then simply bolt it back into place.

This means a quick changeover resulting in fewer labour costs, no need for new engines or frames. Saving the client over the long run thousands of dollars. Especially if they have multiple units like these on the one ship.

Need something similar? No problems! Pumps Australia has a design team willing to help turn your problems into solutions.
